Rio de Janeiro features many world famous sights. The city is busy and bustling, but it is also surrounded by nature and life. The city has many famous sites such as the Corcovado and the Museu de Chacara do Ceu. The Brazilian people have a flair for life and it is very obvious through these beautiful sights and places of culture and history.

The Corcovado is a hunchback mountain where stands the infamous statue of Christ Redeemer with his outstretched arms. The mountain stands 2,230 feet and the statue stands 100 feet. The 1,000-ton statue looks as if it is floating over the people Rio de Janeiro at night and stands as a guardian angel for the city.

This mountain also features an incredible view of the city. Thousands of tourists travel to stand witness to this amazing statue. With the statue in all of its glory, you will also see the city in all of its glory. Stand with your back to the statue and you will see the soccer temple Maracana and the northern districts. Straight in front of you, you will see the Niterol and the hump of the Sugar Loaf. To your right is the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Copacabana and Ipanema beach. This mountain is a wonderful nature and outdoor adventure. The mountain is named for its shape, which resembles a gavea. A gavea is the upper part of a ship. Visitors to the mountain can walk the trails or take a guided tour to the summit of the mountain. There are several rock inscriptions on the mountain. There are several sightseeing tours available for tours of the mountain and many only take twenty minutes. The Corcovado also features a reprieve from the city for many of the locals. At night there are several kiosks that feature amazing food from restaurant branches in the city. There is also live music.

The Santa Teresa Cable Car and the Museu de Chacara do Ceu. These sights are off the beaten path but they are well worth your sightseeing time. You will start in downtown Rio and where you will take the Santa Teresa Cable Car. The cable car travels over an elevated wall with Roman aqueduct arches. You will experience a picturesque ride as you travel to the top of the Santa Teresa Hill. Stopping halfway, you will find the Museo de Chacara do Ceu. This is a small art museum and it usually features one or two traveling art exhibits. The museum also features a small permanent collection as well. After visiting the museum, you will want to visit the Parque das Ruinas. Here you will find a mansion that displays both modern and classical architecture elements. The cable car is a symbol of what used to be the principle form of transportation in the city.

The aqueduct is very famous itself. The Aqueducto de Carioca was finished in 1750. The aqueduct features forty-two arcs and is eight hundred feet long. The aqueduct is a symbol of old and new architecture that defines the city. At one time the aqueduct carried water down from the Rio Carioca and now serves as a viaduct to the Bondinho de Santa Teresa that connects to the downtown of Rio de Janeiro.

These are beautiful areas in the city to visit and you will have the opportunity to listen and mingle with the people of Rio de Janeiro. The city is busy but there are many places to get away and enjoy nature and the outdoors. You will be able to soak in the true feeling of Brazil as well as the history and culture of this great city.
